A toast to greatness

Fuck an intro. I'm just going to jump right into it, because this is a big post as is. Take it all in at once (in one sitting), or come back several times. Alright, let's get into it!

VON POE VII / POETIC DEATH:

Just in case you didn't watch the three interviews that were shared in Fiasco's previous post, I'm going to link them again: PART ONE, PART TWO, and PART THREE. After watching all of them (about 38 minutes in length total), I've learned a few things about both Von Poe VII and Papa J. Ruiz that I wanted to share with you in little bullet points. Here is what I learned about Poe that I didn't already know and some things that I did know that maybe you didn't (Papa J's are in his section below):

  • 1) He has a website for a reason. There, you will find music, merch, and more.
  • 2) If you genuinely want to kick it with Poe, you can. He's open for that. However, don't try to turn it into an audition, hoping that he'll give you a Green Lantern power ring and ask you to join up. Not happening.
  • 3) Poe has a slick vintage record player / radio sitting right behind him, in his house (I think that's his house and, at least, I think that plays records). This has nothing to do with "info about Poe", but I couldn't not notice it.
  • 4) Poe's main drive for making music are for therapeutic reasons, to find peace of mind, and to spread a message.
  • 5) He's aiming to release The Purity of Love and War sometime this Spring. Although, with the way Poe operates, it could change at any given moment (and, if you look at the description box of his newest music video [more on that below], it says that the project will be coming before the year is up--ahhhh! Let's just hope for Spring, haha). Just stay on your toes. You know what, though? He has that foreplay game on lock. By that, I mean that he's really good at teasing a muhfucka, getting someone real ready for the big move (this re-release), and just when you think he's gonna hit you with it... BOOM. "NAAAAH, GIRL. YA BETTA WAIT SOME MO'." I was anticipating that album re-release at the end of 2015 and just when that climatic moment was around the corner, he pushes it back to Spring 2016. BUT, like the hungry birds that we are, we will wait with open mouths for that good-good... music, that is. Haha! It's alright, though, I understand the (tedious) process and wanting to perfect everything before unleashing it to the world.
  • 6) He lists the following non-musical people as inspirations: Edgar Allen Poe, Lars Von Trier, and Willem Dafoe.
  • 7) He thinks Seinfeld (the show) is cool, but he doesn't think Jerry Seinfeld is funny person. Papa J. wholeheartedly disagrees.
  • 8) The hardest song for him to let go of was "Phlegmatic". He said, "I really like Phlegmatic for what it represented in terms of, I guess, my version of Illmatic. Know what I'm sayin'? Or, Stillmatic. Up until that point, ever since Nas did his thing, there's been a lot of Matics in a boom bap hip hop sound. Then I came with Phlegmatic, and I felt like it did justice to who I am as an artist; or my overall sound as an artist. I can't say that's my favorite track, because I like a lot of my bars. I'm egotistical when it comes to some of the shit I write. I feel like I'm dope as shit, so I can't give you a favorite. So, Phlegmatic and the Seventh Palace were definitely dope pieces."

Also mentioned in Fiasco's post was the Von Poe VII x Papa J. Ruiz collabo EP that was dropped on us earlier this month as a surprise. I don't want to reiterate anything that he might have said, so I've just embedded the album in this post for your listening pleasure. STREAM + PURCHASE 5 TRACKS AND THE INTRO EP


A few days ago, he dropped the new music video for the "Basquiat". In this self-directed video, there's a tight frame shot, that slowly creeps up closer, where we see a pensive Poe sitting in a low-lit room, by himself, seemingly unwinding from the day and writing raps beside a bright, burning lamp. It's minimally edited in a black-and-white color treatment, with the exception of the flames coming from the light bulb, and a few special effects. In combination with his powerful lyrical message that conveys pain, hope and self-awareness, the video also adds a lot of emotional depth. The song was produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto, and also features Saeed and LaTanya Givens (the vocalist from Jay Electronica's version of the song). See it below.

Based on Poe's latest music-related tweets, he's going to present us with a new song, or a new music video, or a new something. Stay tuned for Fiasco's next post, as well as all of Von Poe VII's social media.




Lastly, I want to share with you all some INCREDIBLY AWESOME news that Von Poe just unveiled today--moments ago--that has me all kinds of excited and proud. He/his music is featured in the OFFICIAL MOVIE TRAILER to the new (and third) martial arts movie, Ip Man 3. When I read his tweet, I legit did a double-take, like "SAY WHATTT?!", and got all sorts of hype. You know, the type of hype you get when M.O.P.'s "Ante Up" comes on. GET HIM, GET HIM, GET HIM! I am a big fan of Donnie Yen and the Ip Man movie franchise (I've even been following Donnie Yen on Instagram, and have been ultra ready for this third installment, based on all the pictures, behind the scenes shots, and stuff that he posts). I am also a big fan of Von Poe VII as a music artist and as a person (I mean, all that should be apparent, since I write for this blog), so I think that it's very dope that he got a big feature spot like that. What an accomplishment. So cool! *Salutes* Without further explanation, watch the trailer below, if you haven't already seen it:

This has been something that we've both been keeping under wraps for a couple of months now, but now that the trailer is released I can speak on this huge personal accomplishment. I'm honored and humbled to have been given the opportunity to have music heard over (not just) an amazing film, but as a piece of the great Donnie Yen's legacy. It's also an amazing feeling knowing that the legendary Mike Tyson is a part of this film as well.

PAPA J. RUIZ:

Here are ten things that I learned, or that you should know, about Papa J. after watching the 3-part interview series that he did with Von Poe VII (links to those are listed above).
  • 1) He has a website for a reason, go visit it to quench all of your Papa J. Ruiz needs.
  • 2) In explaining what the "iii" means to him, he said: "The iii means everything. It's just another form of peace--world peace. Unity. Grind. Hustle. Sacrifice. That what the iii means, it means everything to me. Cause when I found it, it represented me. I just came across it in my life; never forced nothing. It should mean everything to everybody."
  • 3) Papa J says if you respect women, they'll flock to you. He isn't lying--respect, no matter who it's directed at, is a big deal and it will take you further in life.
  • 4) Papa J doesn't seem to dip his curly fries in anything. This might seem like a dumb thing to bring up, but I'm the type of person that has to have a dip for my fries, haha.
  • 5) Papa J and Von Poe met at talent shows. Before they knew each other, they went to a couple of the same talent shows, kept noticing each other (both losing), they exchanged phone numbers afterwards because they liked each other's music, and parted ways. They didn't really expect much to come out of it... until, a year later (or, if you ask Poe, it was only a few months, haha), Papa J went back to California, kicked it with Poe, did a song, kept building and linking up several times... and the rest is history.
  • 6) He wants his art to reach millions, to be everlasting, to touch souls, to inspire, and to captivate the world.
  • 7) The number 55 isn't as deep as people think it is. It is not his favorite number, and he is not obsessed with it, despite having a handful of projects and songs with the number involved. In short, he describes it as an extension of a story that he was delivering to the people through different pieces of work that meant something to him.
  • 8) Of the few Jack In The Box sandwiches that Papa J. eats, he only tears the crust off of one of them. Again, not important information, but I did notice it. Hahaha, after writing that, I feel like this is one of those "pop up video" random-ass facts.
  • 9) He lists the following non-musical people as inspirations: Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., John Leguizamo, Jerry Seinfeld, The Ninja Turtles, Superheroes, his mother, his father, and his son.
  • 10) His 2016 objectives include: Grinding, hustling, learning, new music, new videos, and doing a lot more shows.

Again, if you haven't downloaded the 5 TRACKS AND THE INTRO EP that he and Von Poe VII released on ---, make sure you do that as soon as possible. Following that grand-slam project surprise, Papa J. announced that there will be more big news on the way. Keep your eyes open for that.

SONNY SEV:

Yesterday was Sev's birthday. Even though it's over, you should go flood his timeline with "happy belated birthday" wishes. He's been neglecting social media lately, so give him something to look at when he signs on. For good measure, let's throw it back to a couple of his older music videos and go show him some love by downloading (whether you pay or not, but paying him is nice too) his 2014 album, titled Seven Empty.




VIC VIRTUOSO:

Vic Virtuoso dropped a brand new music video, from his Victor Van Gogh album, for the song "Gloom". Cut entirely to some personal home footage of his uncle who passed away (RIP), Vic Virtuoso spits deep, reflective lyrics about life, hope for race equality, trust, love, and being protective of his family, all over a mellow beat led by warm guitar chords, delicate keys, and a head-nodding drum pattern. Watch and listen below. Grab that album, too.

"Stolen Whip" Sets a New Standard & Details on New OGT Albums!

This is Fiasco and I am here to present to you the latest news from Organized Threat! We receive a great surprise from Papa J. Ruiz, exclusive information on an upcoming project from URSUS, as well as details on Vic Virtuoso's album, and more will fill up this OGT Weekly.

Why is the OGT Weekly important?

The OGT Weekly is important for many reasons! We can't all be online 24/7. Some of us work full-time, go to school full-time, or a mixture of the two. On top of that we all have friends and family that we like to see as well as activies we like to take part in. It would be irrational to believe that someone can be behind a screen waiting for their favorite artists to relase some new content. Every two weeks the OGT Weekly has you covered from EVERYTHING that Organized Threat released and announced into ONE blog.

On top of being busy, and I know all of you are busy being productive because you're Organized Threat listeners, as humans (some of us) we just miss things. Maybe you missed that tweet or that IG post or maybe you just don't have the proper social media platform that the news was announced on. No matter if you have Twitter, FB, or an IG, Tiff (another OGT Weekly contributor) and I have you covered!

Lastly, from time to time the Organized Threat members prefer to release exclusive news or music through the OGT Weekly. The OGT Weekly has the power of supplying you with the cutting edge news as soon as it's released. Now that is why the OGT Weekly is important!

OGT WEEKLY (blog #666, take 7, round 8)

 If you don't believe in yourself, then why do you expect to see results? Believing in yourself is the self-talk that you need to commence your journey to accomplishing your goal. Telling yourself "I know I can do this", "(insert task here) is easy", you are programming your brain for success! Papa J. Ruiz would agree...


Papa J. Ruiz has released his first project since dropping his HR 1955 album. Here is HR1955 (LOST FILES) and it contains in it's grasp, 8 tracks that did not make the tracklist for HR 1955. While playing HR1955 (LOST FILES) you may come across tracks that you have heard before and some new tracks as well. During your experience you may wonder why certain tracks didn't make the album. Specifically, "La Sistema / The System", did not make the album even though it did receive the music visual treatment. Leave a comment below, stating a track (or two) that you believe should have made the official album.

With director Chad A. Marshall, Papa J. Ruiz presents to you a cohesive visual for "Stolen Whip"! There are several thoughts racing through my mind right now that I want to say about this visual. Just to start off, I do believe that this visual sets a brand new standard for Organized Threat visuals moving forward. "Stolen Whip" really had everything in balance and not one shot was more important than the other. Chad A. Marshall and Papa J. Ruiz were still able to tell a story that related to the track, while making sure to capture scenes of Papa J. Ruiz performing his raps. Along with that, they were still able to fit scenes in of elements that you typically see in todays music videos but, OGT did it on their terms. The scenes I'm talking about are the dancing scene and the scene with the woman. Typically in a music video today you would see over the top or unncessary dancing and a woman showing off "a lot". Not in this visual! The dance didn't take away from the visual and a beautiful woman was not the highlight (nor does it make it the only reason to watch the visual multiple times)! In a previous OGT Weekly that obtained Papa J. Ruiz's visual for "Rap Records / LA Resident" there was a transistion in scenes and there was a scene that was served to transistion into the second part of the track. I commented by saying "I'm not not sure how I feel about the setup. I believe if Organized Threat continues to play around with that approach it can only get better". And guess what? It is better this time around! This transition is vital to the "Stolen Whip" visual and has the potential to change your perception. Have I wrote enough about this visual? And it seems that OGT has finally agreed to their deal with Arizone Iced Tea. If you want to focus more on the track itself, "Stolen Whip" can be located on Papa J. Ruiz's album HR 1955.

Well I don't know if you knew but Von Poe VII appears to have a plan to release a vinyl for The Purity Of Love And War. Now, I haven't owned a vinyl before so I'll have to make this my first one.
Via the Twitter social media platform, Von Poe VII and Papa J. Ruiz entertain the possibility of collaboration merch in 2016. If they do go through with this, it may inspire other OGT members to "buddy up" and do the same. This has the possibility of doing very well. It is still 2015 so while we wait for 2016 to approach, what are ideas/designs come to mind for Von Poe VII x Papa J. Ruiz collab merch? Leave a comment below!

"I Am His-Panic" is the newest track from Xican Brown. Xican Brown comes straight at you with a relentless delivery and hard hitting lines. "I Am His-Panic" serves as a track that makes sure Xican Brown and his Hispanic heritage is heard.


Somehow, some way the thought of accomplishing things on our own became the example of true hard work. I would love to meet the person who actually did EVERY single thing on his/her own. When it comes down to it we need a support system, mentorship, and unity to reach our goals. Sonny Sev would agree...

With Vic Virtuoso's album Victor Van Gogh on the way, he has provided me with the latest information on his album! In total there will be thirteen tracks and seven of those will be produced by himself. He has confirmed with me the following features; Sticky Ricky, Derrick Oliver, Von Poe VII, Razor, and Sonny Sev. Victor Van Gogh is coming soon!

Another Organized Threat member that has an EP on the way is URSUS. Entitled Resurrection, this project will actually be an introduction to the URSUS character. It is important to note that although it will be the second project released it is actually the third part to a journey. The journey actually began with URSUS' Prologue EP and that project set up the environment. According to URSUS, "Stay Still  is going to the be the story and events that lead the URSUS character to be the type of person he is. So its like introducing the environment. Then the character. Then doing an origin story".

When characters arise in literature and music, we often wonder if that character carries attributes of the author. I asked URSUS if the URSUS character has anything in common with who he is as a person. URSUS replied, "I mean there are real things and feelings in there that come from my experience, but it's all hidden in metaphor. So I draw from real experiences, but at the end of the day it's a character". Ressurrection will be here on September 22nd.

In case you missed it (see how important the OGT Weekly is now?), I have placed the visuals for Organized Threat's BARS sessions. In this BARS series, Organized Threat places the focus on the lyrical skills of their MCs. I believe that this is one of the greatest ideas to arise and I hope that we continue to see more. In Threat We Trust

VON POE VII / POETIC DEATH:

If you aren't up on what's happening with this cat, you gotta follow his social media accounts. Same with any of the OGT members. Speaking of social media, he is now on Snapchat, so if you get down with that app, go add him at "vonpoevii" (as if you thought it'd be some other name). That being said, he wrote, recorded, and dropped a brand-spankin-new song, as of an hour ago! Produced by STiM and inspired by phone calls with Papa J. Ruiz, "Steady Coastin'" has him rapping about the hard work and ambition it takes to really chase your dreams, especially when being faced with hurdles and setbacks. He's steady coastin' through it all. Then, a few days ago, he dropped another new track, called "Titan". Over a head-nodding, jazzy boom bap cut produced by 3Point, Poe spits aggressive bars about what it means to be a giant, always making moves and staying true to his word. PAPA J. RUIZ:

As you all may know, Papa J. Ruiz opened up for Casey Veggies on May 14th, in Denver, Colorado. I'm assuming it went well (because why wouldn't it have?), which probably had him on a positive high on his trip to California... for his radio run tour. I'm hoping you were plugged into all of those shows, or at least one or a few of them. Spread out between Los Angeles and San Francisco, he was on Breakbeats and Rhymes with Rebels To The Grain, he was on the Crappy Awesome podcast with Mr. Arash and C-Rey, he was on iHeartRadio with Row Dayanghirang, and then on BReal TV's Heavyweights Radio with Mike XXL and DJ Truly Odd (WATCH HERE). If the others aren't already uploaded, I'm sure those will be available at their respective websites to stream soon, so keep your eyes open.

He also got down on the 5th installment of the Organized Threat series BARS, which is posted at the bottom. Now, I'm going to embed several posts where Papa J. SONNY SEV:

Sonny Sev dropped a couple new tracks this month, you guys. The first one is called "Snatch", and he spits grimy raps over the same beat on Mobb Deep's "Still Shinin". He also lets it be known that you can call him Mr. Seven, and he's making the effort to be recognized everywhere... and the music he's been putting out lately only solidifies that. Respect. The other song is called "7 Roses", and it was produced by STiM. It's a real relaxing beat, with melancholy whistling in the forefront over dusty drums and melodic keys. Taking a deep breath, Sonny Sev lets his reflective thoughts unravel through storytelling lyrics about his life's bumpy ride of struggles and pain. I love listening to this one, because the emotional depth in his words really grabs me. Listen to both of these gems now.




He also blessed the 6th installment of the Organized Threat BARS series, so make sure you check that video out at the bottom. And for comedic relief, I saw this retweeted on his Twitter, so I thought I'd share... hahaha.

VIDA KILLZ:

Seeing as how I got put onto both Von Poe VII (aka Poetic Death) and Vida Killz through their DeathKillz collaborative work, back in 2011, I thought I'd share the "Chapter Six" song that Vida Killz recently uploaded to her Soundcloud; Especially since those projects no longer exist on Bandcamp. The song was released in 2011, and produced by Kwervo. It finds the two intertwining poetic raps with spoken word (as they're known to do when they work together), lacing expressive lyrics with dark subject matter on life. KOOLZ ONE:

While his Facebook fan page isn't popping anymore, Koolz posts a lot to Instagram, Twitter, and he's on Snapchat (koolz1_iicc). That said, if you haven't downloaded his Writers Block EP, you should go do that already. I mean, there's 11 songs and it's completely free, so what's stopping you?! This is a prelude to his The Alpha album coming soon, and he's already dropping previews of songs from that via social media (peep that IG embed).





XICAN BROWN:

Xican Brown and Koolz One have joined forces to become Society of the Ill. Two weeks ago, they released the first song under their new name, and it's called "Partners In Crime". Shiiiiit, why wouldn't it be called that? These partners in (c)rhyme crush this neck-breaking banger, by slanging lyrical weapons of mass destruction that prove that they aren't playing around. If you wanted to get an idea for what Xican Brown is working on lately, make sure you pay attention to his Instagram page. He has shared a couple of previews of some beats he's working on, for example this one and this one.




RUMAN:

Producer Ruman shared a new track a couple days ago, called "4EVERWAVY". It's only 1 1/2 minutes in length, but it's a nice, slow-burning beat, laced with a thick bassline, jittery hi-hats, and tip-toeing, hazy synths. Stream below, and look out for more from him (such as a collab with Rellim). Also, go check out his Soundcloud page, because he just celebrated 100,000 total plays.





RELLIM:

Much like the rest of the camp, Rellim has been a busy dude. On May 15th, he dropped a 4-track instrumental project, titled Somewhere Not Here. He has said that these are not beats for people to rap over, so don't treat them as such, because these are meant to be listened to as is. In fact, these songs are really easy to listen to... on some kick up your feet, relax your mind, and cool out type vibes. They ride predominantly on head-nodding boom bap drums, some signature Rellim hi-hats, and a lot of soulful, jazzy grooves. When you listen to a lot of Rellim's past work, and then listen to this EP, it's quite nice to hear such a range and versatility with him. Well done, dude. This project is available for the pay-what-you-want price; whether you download it for free or donate some dollars, that's entirely up to you. Aside from grabbing it on Bandcamp, you can also find it on Audiomack, GotInstrumentals, and Youtube. Give it a listen, though!

Threat Banga

VON POE VII / POETIC DEATH:

For one day, and one day only, Poe uploaded his very first album, titled The Atma Within, that he released 10 years ago. TEN YEARS AGO. FOR ONE DAY. On his birthday, April 13th. If you were like me and totally forgot about and/or were busy, then you/we missed out on that for good. But if you did get to hear it, what did you think of it? Inquiring minds want to know.

Alright, if you missed it, you're going to have to stop sobbing, because now you can watch his latest, JUST RELEASED music video. That's right--he's been filming for "The Villain II", in the Inland Empire area between the 17th and today, and just posted up the video minutes ago. Part two to the first song. The intro starts with a clip from Papa J.'s interview, where he talks about Poe being his favorite rapper in the game. Produced by Nez and Rio, and dropping his take on Asap Rocky's "Lord Pretty Flocko 2", Von Poe spits with a furious flow and holds his own. Like I said in this blog post, "My favorite part is the second verse, too, because he's spitting some from-the-heart, real shit, like representing for his town, demanding respecting, getting to where he is without hand-outs, and the shady friends that turned their backs on him after he's helped them in some way. The villain is poetically killin' 'em." YUP. Directed by Chad A. Marshall himself, so watch the music video below. If you haven't streamed and/or downloaded The Purity of Love and War, then get up on that right now. RIGHT NOW. He's also wrapping up the third volume in the Villain Trilogy, so look out for more information on that in due time.

On April 1st, Papa J Ruiz did his first official interview since the release of HR-1955 (GO GET THAT). You, his fans, asked the questions and he answered them. Some of the questions were goofy and flirtatious, asking if he whistles in public and wanting to marry him; and some were the serious, run-of-the-mill interview questions, regarding his childhood, his future plans, what inspired him to pick up the mic. VIDA KILLZ:

Vida recently announced that she's going back to the drawing board, to think about what she should release next. "I hope this next chapter of my expression and art is as meaningful to you as the last few chapters. I am eternally blessed to have all of you tuned into the vibration I choose to emit, she said.

She is still seeking more photos from people around the world, regarding holding up a paper sign with handwritten words of encouragement, a positive affirmation, or something you miss about someone you love who has passed away (only one sentence). She needs over 200 of these, and they will be used for a new music video that she's working on for "Untitled". So, check out this FACEBOOK EVENT for more information and participation.

KOOLZ ONE:

Koolz dropped a couple of new tracks from his forthcoming EP, titled Writers Block (it was originally scheduled to release the first week of April, but it got pushed back). Up to bat first is a song called "Organized Inc.", and it features Xican Brown. Out for vengeance in the trenches, the two jump on a hard-hitting, bass thumping beat, trading boastful verses. The third single is called "Threat Banga", and it features fellow OGT members Xican Brown and Sonny Sev. All three of them come out swinging with aggressive deliveries and lyrical threats to anyone who steps on their toes. RELLIM:

Rellim recently announced that he's starting on a new EP, called Ashes. "Adieu" is the first single. It was co-produced by himself and Shy Martian. I assume this is going to be a rap project, based on this track. This isn't his first one either; check out Trailer Trash, if you want. Stream "Adieu" below. He also dropped a track with Mike Labyrinth, called "B3NZ", that he produced. It sounds like something you'd listen to driving at night, with the slow jazz horns guiding the mellow rhythm, and thumping drums, rapid hi-hats, and chopped vocal samples in the forefront. VIC VIRTUOSO:

On April 13th, Vic Virtuoso dropped a music video, for a self-produced song called "Pale Moon Light". This is his second music video, following "Heathen". Referencing The Joker, when he asks his prey/Bruce Wayne, "Have you ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight?", Vic Virtuoso takes us down a dark alley of personal thoughts, past sins, death, and friends turned enemies. RAZOR:

Razor's Oblivious to Nonsense album comes out this summer, and he posted up a song from it. Produced by Rellim and Arm$trong, "24Seven" finds A-Fresh and Razor rapping about pushing through struggle, having a great work ethic, and striving for success. From the hook: "Money on my mind, like 24/7 // So I gotta go hard in every single one of my studio sessions // Money on my mind, like 24/7 // Bitch, I've been a man from a young age, like I skipped adolescence." Listen to Papa J. Ruiz's "HR-1955" and Learn More of What's New in OGT

This is Fiasco and I am alive right now to supply you with the latest news on Organized Threat. Can I outdo the effort Tiff put in the previous OGT Weekly?

 HR-1955 IS OFFICIALLY OUT! 

 Dedicated to his son Nasir Lyric Ruiz, Papa J. Ruiz has officially released his HR-1955 album. Before commencing your journey into the album, it is important you view this exclusive interview with Papa J. Ruiz below;




HR-1955 contains 17 tracks that provides us with more life experiences of Papa J. Ruiz expressed through his rapping ability. We are met with Papa J. Ruiz's raw rhyming over superb production. Off the top of my head, one of my favorite lines so far coming from his "Color Blind" track is "Throw me in some holy water / Baby watch that shit boil". You can't help but picture Papa J. standing tall as steam rises around him. On top of that it is sure to get a few religious people "boiling", only if they take the line to heart. That's what I like.

The second part of "Domestic Terrorist" is a nice highlight of the album. When we were introduced to the visual we were not told that there are features. Then, the album tracklist showed that JMega and Von Poe VII are featured on it. So for those of you who like to start from track 1, were surely anticipating what they had to offer. For those who didn't care what track they listened to first, definitely skipped straight to "Domestic Terrorist".

The second half of "PennyLess" was one of my favorite highlights of the album. The production is not what we are normally used to hearing from Ruiz. It was definitely a nice addition to close out the album. Possibly foreshadowing what  his next project may sound like.

LATEST ON VON POE VII

"Soliloquy" is the newest visual from Von Poe VII and it is from his The Purity of Love and War album. My initial reaction was the visual itself is 100x more important than the audio. I really believe that what we are presented with are the types of visuals one would think about by just listening to the production by the Nujabees, alone. A lot of sunshine and people smiling.




Von Poe VII also linked up with Foxsta for their track "Negus".

Being that April is Von Poe VII's birthday month, he is contemplating on dropping one visual a week. It is unknown from which albums these visuals will come from. Click here to view the tweet. Von Poe VII also hints that the final album to his The Villainz Trilogy will be the "darkest" of the three. He went on to compare it to his DTTS: Chapter 2. album which is no longer available. Do you know what that means? It means I'm going to really like this last album.

Step aside Koolz One, Rellim will make the announcement for you! Rellim took to Twitter to let everyone know that Koolz One will be dropping a track today. Given the fact that Rellim announced it, leads me to believe that he is responsible for the production. If not, then he just might be really excited about the news.

Sonny Sev's upcoming project Localz Only is getting a slight change. Originally it was only supposed to be STiM producing the entire project but Sev's vision has changed and he now accept production from other producers.

Vic Virtuoso is next up in the BARS series. The BARS series presented by Organized Threat is designed to focus the spotlight on the lyrics of the OGT emcees. This is an ingenious idea that I hope they will carry on consistently for as long as possible. Even if they need to do the same emcee twice! It doesn't matter! Vic Virtuoso brilliantly utilizes bilingual wordplay in his session for the BARS series. Here is "Fresh Off The Boat" from one of Organized Threat's newest addition to the roster.

With Von Poe VII recently linking up with Papa J. Ruiz in Colorado, it is possible that Papa J. Ruiz is next.



You may be asking yourself why my OGT Weekly was published a bit later than usual. Well I've just been in one of those ruts as a writer. More as a blogger/journalist because I haven't been publishing on the other website I write for either. I have been doing more of my personal writing which is what I've been wanting to focus on lately. I know you enjoyed this OGT Weekly so I don't have to hope that you did. Respect the lyrics

VON POE VII / POETIC DEATH:

Poe dropped his first music video of 2015, and the first off of his latest project, The Purity of Love and War. Yup, it's for "Basquiat". The intro of the song quotes Jay-Z in an interview, where he talked in length about being inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat. He goes in to talk about the world's love and hate battle with success, and how success changes people with it and without it. Produced by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the song's production has a melancholy sweetness, due to the mellow rhythm of deep piano notes, warm violin strokes, and that soulful back-up vocal (to which I assume is Saeed's contribution). We then hear a strong-willed Poe rapping about the positive, inspirational people in his life, and how he'll always strive for greatness, despite any negative opinions, setbacks he may face, and the friendships he's lost due success and/or egos. It's such a powerful song, with a message of hope and recognizing self-worth. The music video is just as touching as the subject matter, too. The video follows him running forward, down an open road, and I feel that it represents a carefree, unstoppable freedom towards possibility and opportunity. It also shows you the every day happiness and support that surrounds him--his family, his friends, and his love.

There's an unexpected, hilarious pause in the middle of the video that shows a skit-like clip of Poe tellin' Koolz One and another dude to cop the new album... and the things they say will make you laugh. YARAH BRAVO:

Earlier this month, Yarah announced that she'll be flying to Dubai in April. I've seen pictures of that place, and it is beautiful - I just know that she'll be posting all kinds of amazing stories and/or lovely shots while she's there. She has yet to announce the details regarding that trip, so stay tuned to her social media pages for that information.

When Yarah Bravo had a show with Akua Naru a couple of days ago, they asked that she perform with a live band. Positive response and several requests later, she's making it more than a temporary, one-time thing. After performing shows in Delemont, Switzerland, Yarah Bravo has left (on a jet plane adventure), and is continuing her movement. In regards to upcoming shows, she will be performing in Belgium, on March 27th, alongside Reverie. She also secured a placement at the Hip Hop Open, in Austria, on July 17th (flyer). She will be sharing the same stage as A$AP Rocky, The Underachievers, and others.

Last Thursday, she posted a video from when she was in One Self (a hip hop trio, including DJ Vadim and BluRum 13 -- early One Self fan right here!), performing at Hip Hop Kemp in 2005--WATCH HERE. About the video, she said, "When I look at myself, I see myself so innocent and tiny, just a little kid. But I remember I felt so big hahahaha like I had made it."

One of my favorite songs from her Love Is The Movement album, released almost a year ago (whoa, time flew by), received the visual treatment. I'm talking about "Carousel", produced by TrommelTobi! Kick back and relax to this soothing, beautiful song, as you watch a smiling-faced Yarah fly through the air, on a swing ride. Round and round we go...


I'm going to share with you two entries that she made, regarding the beauty of being a human being and a woman. The first was from March 8th, and the second was from March 13th.

Soulcat hinted that she's been in the studio, taking Music Academy Classes. "Can't wait to finish my record soon ;) Soulcat the producer :D," she said. To give you an idea, she shared a video to a song that she produced. WATCH ON FACEBOOK. It has a futuristic, electro dance jam flare, and I like that kind of vibe.

On March 20th, she will be spinning at NewPoint, in Vienna, Austria. If you're in the area, you might want to pop in, stay for drinks and good tunes. She'll be playing funky house music for ya! Plus, it's free. Check the Facebook Event for more information.

KOOLZ ONE:

BARS SERIES

Organized Threat now has a new video series, called "BARS". As you might have already guessed, this series will focus on the emcees of the movement, by showcasing their lyrical abilities. The first session is called "Writers Block" and it features KOOLZ ONE. With an aggressive delivery, he spits dark, soul-crushing bars that might strike fear into those who oppose him, over an minimal, ominous cinematic beat (it's mostly just a background sound, so as to put all focus on the emcee rapping). The second session is called "Timas Camp Flow", and it features XICAN BROWN. Over the same sound, Xican Brown comes with a more laid-back delivery, letting his poetic, fearless rhymes swing with a verbal punch, as he stands tall like a pillar of strength against all odds. "The day that they break me // That will be the day that God kisses Lucifer's feet - you crazy? // That won't happen // Nor will I give you satisfaction of you laughing // While I'm getting kicked and whipped, like Christ passion."
